The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is in the process of refurbishing Travel Centres in West Yorkshire. As part of this process, a survey took place from 20 July – 17 August 2020 to seek passenger opinions on the current and potential future use of the travel centres at Bradford Interchange, Huddersfield Bus Station and Pontefract Bus Station.

The survey engagement outcome reports have been produced which can be downloaded by clicking on the links below:

Pontefract Bus Station Travel Centre

A feasibility study was carried out for the relocation of the travel centre at Pontefract Bus Station, and it was decided not to carry out the work at this time.

The travel centre will therefore remain in its current location and will be modernised with a refresh of paint and some new leaflet racks.

The information below was presented during the public engagement.

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is in the process of refurbishing the services it provides. This includes the refurbishment of Travel Centres in West Yorkshire. As part of this process, we are consulting passengers about their opinions on the current and potential future use the of travel centres at Bradford Interchange, Huddersfield Bus Station and Pontefract Bus Station.

The aims of this project are to:

  • reduce queues and waiting times
  • modernise the services available at the travel centre
  • make use of technology to present products and services on offer
  • improve energy efficiency in line with the wider bus station improvements.

The proposed refurbishment will:

  • include new travel centre facilities that also provide an open self-service travel and information centre
  • be open plan and less cluttered
  • reduce carbon footprint and paper usage, with low energy lighting and a transfer from paper to digital information (although paper timetables will still be available)

The project is being funded by the Local Transport Plan, with construction currently planned between December 2021 and August 2022 and likely to take place at each location (bus station) simultaneously

This particular project focuses solely on the redevelopment of travel centres in Bradford, Huddersfield and Pontefract. The scope of the works at Dewsbury Bus Station, as part of the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) works, has not yet been agreed, but the aspirations of Kirklees suggest that the final scheme will include the redevelopment of the travel centre. Public engagement on the redevelopment of Dewsbury Bus Station will be sought in the future.
