Between 24 February – 23 March 2020, we held a public engagement on the proposed Cottingley Bus Stops Improvements for the Cottingley estate in south Leeds.

All feedback received during the engagement has been analysed and used to develop the scheme.

We have now published an engagement report, outlining the feedback we received, and a 'You Said, We Did' document, which highlights how the feedback was used to inform the scheme. You can access both reports the documents section.

Background:

The Cottingley estate is a dense residential area served by regular bus services. The scheme proposes to improve the existing local bus stop infrastructure and provision throughout the estate, with new bus shelters and travel information provided at each bus stop. The scheme will also create better loading opportunities for the local and small businesses in the centre of the Cottingley estate.

The proposals are:

  • Improved bus stop locations with new lay-bys and improvements to footpaths to assist accessibility
  • Provision of new bus shelters with travel information at all bus stops
  • Improved informal pedestrian crossing facilities at bus stop locations
  • Improved loading provision around the local businesses in the centre of the estate

The aims of this scheme are to:

  • Encourage more people to use public transport by improving the waiting environment with new and upgraded bus shelters and enabling people to see real-time travel information at all bus shelters
  • Provide enhanced and safer pedestrian routes
  • Enable more effective bus movements through new lay-bys
  • Contribute to an overall improvement in air quality and environmental impacts in the district by encouraging more people to use the bus

Next steps

Following the engagement exercise, construction will begin in January 2021. Please continue to check the project page for further updates, and let us know if you have any additional questions.
