A bus stop without a raised kerb
It’s in Halifax, the first one on Claremount Road as you turn off Boothtown Road. It’s in front of a row of terraced houses (HX3 6N-), and almost opposite Stepping Stones day nursery. There's no raised kerb, making it difficult to step on or off a bus. Also there’s no bus box painted on the road to keep the stop clear of parked vehicles, which means that more often than not the bus goes a long way past the stop to find somewhere to pull in then I have further to walk home. I've asked Calderdale’s Highways Dept about this before but was told not enough people use this stop to justify the cost. They wouldn’t tell me where they draw this arbitrary line. Before lockdown I used it two or three times a week coming home from town, and about 50% of the time there were others getting off with me, so it’s not unused. Nowadays I'm beginning to use it again, but I’m in my 70s and with a chronic leg injury, and am finding it more and more difficult to get off the bus, especially with bags of shopping. I see other local residents having the same problem. The only alternative is to get off at the previous stop which is quite close but it involves crossing a very busy main road, which we shouldn't need to do. How many of us does there need to be struggling like this before they stop discriminating against us?
