The_JF asked almost 6 years agoCombined Authority and Leeds City Council proposals for a new rail station at Thorpe Park do not include scope for delivery of 4 tracking this section of the Leeds – York/Selby Line from Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme funding. However, our early station designs will not preclude the delivery of 4 tracking in the future.

JW asked about 6 years agoThe Combined Authority and Leeds City Council are working with the rail industry and Transport for the North to produce a reliable and robust timetable, that best serves the demand for passengers on this route. Both the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises are committed to introduce new trains and more carriages before the end of 2020. We appreciate the problems with the current timetable and we are working with our partners at Rail North and the train operating companies to influence future timetables and the deployment of rolling stock in order to ensure that trains are deployed in the way that benefits passengers.

Has this replaced the 'East Leeds Parkway' station plan?
michael bradley asked over 6 years agoThe short answer is yes. The original East Leeds Parkway station proposal in the Micklefield area was based on it being an increment to a Network Rail led scheme to move Micklefield station. The Network Rail scheme is now not happening. The Combined Authority completed technical work on possible locations in the east leeds corridor and a new station located at Thorpe Park is preferable as it will support economic development, job creation and regeneration and support local housing.

Glenn asked over 6 years agoWest Yorkshire Combined Authority carried out a new station study in 2014 that looked at 62 potential station locations across the Leeds City Region, including 23 in the Leeds district that are likely to have a good business case for implementing new stations in the next five to ten years. The Combined Authority has prioritised its resources on the development of new stations at Elland, Leeds Bradford Airport Parkway, White Rose and Thorpe Park, for which development funding is already secured and available. The Combined Authority is now working on the development of outline business cases for these stations. However, in due course the Combined Authority will be developing a new rail strategy and further new rail stations, services and infrastructure will be part of the Combined Authority’s considerations. -

Planahead asked over 6 years agoAt this early stage, concept designs for a new Rail Station at Thorpe Park will leave passive provision for any future 4-tracking or electrification of the Leeds-York/Selby Line. The Combined Authority and Leeds City Council will continue to collaborate with the DfT and rail industry to ensure proposals compliment track and service provision on this route.Proposals are at an early stage and design arrangements will be determined as the scheme progresses.

GG02 asked over 6 years agoAs our bus network is a commercial entity operating in a deregulated environment, operators can specify their own services and set the prices. We are however working closely with the City’s major bus operators, Arriva, First and Transdev through our Bus18 initiative to deliver a number of pledges that will make bus travel better and encourage more people to use the bus. Also, as part of Connecting Leeds we have ambitious plans to deliver improvements to the bus network between Alwoodley and Leeds and Oakwood and Leeds, to make bus services quicker and more reliable, whilst also making local journeys on foot and by bike convenient and attractive.

Share I current use the Leeds/York/Selby line for commuting between Garforth and my place of work in Leeds city centre. Since the recent timetable changes there have been capacity problems and delays with Northern Trains, if Thorpe Park station were to open today there would not be enough capacity within the current timetable and rolling stock to accommodate the additional passengers on that line. For example on 19/7/18 the 5:25pm Selby train departing from Leeds train station of which stops at Garforth only has two carriages, more people were waiting on the platform than could possible fit on the train. This has happens very regularly! As a resident of East Leeds I am in favour of the new proposed Thorpe Park Station however this will only possible is train operators invest in new trains and provide more carriages on busy services. on Facebook Share I current use the Leeds/York/Selby line for commuting between Garforth and my place of work in Leeds city centre. Share Why is Thorpe park first on the list, because it's the easiest? I think the one to LB A is much more needed. Thorpe park has two other stations less than a mile away and is used only by local people . The airport is bringing in trade from outside Leeds and useful to all Leeds residents. If your not sure if all 3 are feasible you should start with one one that is most useful to all. on Facebook Share Why is Thorpe park first on the list, because it's the easiest? Julie Sadler asked over 6 years agoThe Combined Authority and Leeds City Council have secured development funding to progress all three new rail stations within the Leeds area up to the completion of the Outline Business Case. There is no priority order among the three proposed sites at the moment. Further development and implementation of the schemes will be subject to technical and operational feasibility, viability of business and financial cases, and availability of third party funding.
