West Yorkshire Combined Authority and train operator Northern are increasing parking provision at Normanton Railway Station.

April 2024 update:

From 15 April 2024, the lower car park will be closed, and the upper car park, which consists of 27 spaces will be open. As this will mean fewer spaces are available, please consider alternative ways of travelling to the station.

Rail Park and Ride Programme

Normanton Rail Station Car Park is one of 9 projects within phase 1 of our £25.8 million Rail Park and Ride Programme, which has been designed to increase station parking and provide people with increased access to train services.

In turn, this will help reduce congestion, improve local air quality and enhance people’s access to jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as leisure activities.

The aim of the programme is to reduce car journeys and encourage passengers onto rail, through improved accessibility to the rail network.

The extended car park will consist of the following:

  • 143 car parking spaces, including 8 accessible parking spaces
  • Additional CCTV and lighting
  • The new car park will continue to be free for rail users.

You can view a plan drawing here showing the proposed car park extension.

Alternative arrangements

During construction, work will be completed in two phases so that a reduced number of car parking spaces remain available.

The map below shows the frequency of bus services stopping from Market Place in Normanton. The following bus services to Normanton Market Place run close to the rail station: 147, 186, 189.

A downloadable larger version of the map is available under ‘Documents’.

Thank you for getting in touch.

Subject to a satisfactory handover to Network Rail, Northern Trains Ltd expect the car park to be open by the end of this month.

    Parking charges

Sharon Guy asked about 1 month ago

Hello, there won't be a charge for parking once the car park reopens. It is the policy of the Combined Authority not to charge for parking at rail station car parks, to promote the use of public transport.
