Kirklees Speed Limit Review engagement
Scheme Overview
The roads outside schools can become very busy, especially during drop-off and pick-up times, leading to congestion and creating safety risks for children, parents/carers and people living close by.
Over the next two years, Kirklees Council, in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, will be seeking views from school communities and local residents at 35 schools and two children's Sure Start centres in the area. We want to hear about any road safety concerns around these locations, including barriers to wheeling, walking, cycling and scooting as well as suggestions for improvements to make the surrounding areas safer.
The selected schools and Sure Start centres were identified close to areas where data shows that speed-related collisions occurred most frequently. We also looked at Census data to determine areas where car ownership is low and the potential benefits of improving infrastructure and opportunity for wheeling, walking, cycling and scooting are greater.
Your feedback will be used to develop School Travel Action Plans. These plans will recommend measures to tackle the specific road safety challenges faced by each school or centre and build on any work that may already be taking place.
School Travel Action Plans will provide the evidence base for priority allocation of the limited funding available at this time to selected schools or centres identified as having the greatest need, and for allocation of potential future rounds of funding to further schools or centres depending on agreed priorities.
