Help shape West Yorkshire’s future
Tell us how we can make it easier for you to hear from us and ‘have your say’
As a Combined Authority, we work with different partners, including local councils, to make West Yorkshire a better place to live and work. We do this by working together to develop and deliver policies, programmes and services which directly benefit you.
West Yorkshire is home to 2.4 million people, nearly 100,000 businesses and 14,000 voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations. Our places are among the most diverse in the country.
Diversity boosts innovation, creativity and productivity. To make West Yorkshire a better place to live and work, everyone in our region must have the opportunity to hear about – and have their say on – plans that affect them.
We know that some people don’t take part in public engagement. This can be because of personal, cultural and social factors, such as accessibility needs, lack of trust, limited access to internet, not knowing the benefits of engagement, feeling their voice is in the minority and many other reasons.
We want to better understand barriers to engagement so that we can try to remove them and offer people from diverse backgrounds and with diverse experiences the opportunity to have their say and engage with our work. This will help us provide better services and make more of a difference.
This is why we want to hear from you about how you prefer to have your say and be kept informed about our work.
We are particularly interested in capturing your feedback if you:
- don’t typically hear from us or engage with us
- think the way we engage doesn’t meet your needs
- have ideas on how we can improve our communication and engagement
- are a voluntary, community, faith, social enterprise (VCFSE) organisation, group or individual who works with community groups or people who are often left out of the conversation and often experience discrimination.
Have your say
You can share your feedback with us in a few ways.
1. By completing an online or electronic survey.
We have created a survey that can be completed by individuals or organisations to tell us about the best ways to engage with you.
There are two ways you can complete the survey:
- By filling in the online survey here, or
- By downloading an electronic version of the survey and completing it on your computer, tablet or phone. You can return it to us by using our email address yourvoice@westyorks-ca.gov.uk.
If you chose to complete an electronic version of the survey, please note that the survey is split into two: one survey for individuals and one for organisations. So please make sure you select and download the right survey for you. You can download the survey from the Documents section of this page or by accessing one of these links:
2. By completing a paper survey.
If you prefer to fill in a paper survey, you can either:
- download and print the electronic version of the survey, or
- call us or write to us at and request a paper survey to be sent to your address. You can find our contact details below.
Once you complete the paper survey, you can scan it or take a picture of it on your phone and return it via email. Or you can send it to us via post using our free postal address (no stamp needed). For post, please write on the envelope: Freepost CONSULTATION TEAM WYCA.
3. By writing to us using our email address or postal address
You can write directly to us to tell us how you prefer to hear from us or have your say or share your feedback.
4. By having a conversation with one of our colleagues
If completing a survey doesn’t work for you, please let us know by calling us or writing to us, and a colleague will get in touch for a quick conversation.
Alternative formats
If none of these options work for you and you require other ways or formats to have your say, please contact us or ask someone you trust to have a chat about how best to support you to have your say.
Please complete the survey or share your feedback by 31 December 2024.
Next steps
In the new year we will collect and analyse all the feedback and we will use it to revise and improve our communication and engagement plans and strategies. The feedback will particularly inform our Inclusive engagement framework, an internal document which will guide all our future engagement and consultation projects.
