West Yorkshire Combined Authority and train operator Northern are increasing parking provision at Hebden Bridge Rail Station.

Hebden Bridge station currently has 81 car parking spaces and is well used by rail users. Working with our partners at Northern Trains and Network Rail, this project aims to improve the availability of parking by increasing the number of spaces.

The Hebden Bridge scheme will provide:

  • An additional 46 spaces car parking spaces, bringing the total to 127 which includes 4 Blue Badge bays, and 3 Motorcycle spaces.
  • Additional CCTV*, new low energy LED lighting and enhanced drainage.

*Update 22/06/2023: This will consist of an additional column with camera to cover the car park extension and will be installed by 31st March 2024.

Alternative arrangements

The car park will remain partially open for rail users, with approximately 30 spaces available for use. Alternatively, the car park at Mytholmroyd is also available for use.

Among the local bus services that people could use are the half-hourly, 595 between Crimsworth and Hebden Bridge, the 596 between Blackshaw Head and Hebden Bridge and the B3 Keighley to Hebden Bridge.

Rail Park and Ride Programme

The Hebden Bridge car park scheme is one of 14 projects within Phase 1 of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s £31.5 million Rail Park and Ride Programme, which has been designed to increase station parking and provide people with increased access to train services. In turn, this will help reduce congestion, improve local air quality and enhance people’s access to jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities, as well as leisure activities.

  • Share As you are installing ducting to provide power for EV charging points in the car park, this could be the ideal opportunity to provide a power source to the bus stop, which currently lacks both and information screen and lighting. When this has been raised previously, we were told that the issue was providing a power source. It seems to me that the work on the car park extension is an ideal opportunity to improve facilities at the bus stop as well. If the intention is to enhance the station’s role as a transport hub, attention should be given to those accessing it by bus as well as those driving. Thanks for your enquiry. The scope of the project is only to extend the current car park, however discussions have begun to investigate connecting power to the bus shelter. Thank you.

  • Share I am delighted to see that the car park extension at Hebden Bridge station will increase the number of Blue Badge spaces to 4. However I am anxious to know whether this will include levelling the rise so that wheelchair users may access the station from the car park extension and/or the main road. I represent the disabled community on Friends of Hebden Bridge Station and began campaigning for full disabled access in 2009. I am of course absolutely delighted that the station was made fully accessible in 2019 - but only from the station entrance. Will the 2 new wheelchair parking spaces be in the car park extension? If so will the pavement rise be levelled? A manual wheelchair using friend who lives close to the junction on the Keigthley Road was told that in order to access the station he had to go downhill into central Hebden Bridge, cross the Memorial Gardens and then across the park and up the incline into the lower car park. If he crosses the Burnley Road in order to access the starion, the pavement area is very narrow and full of holes. I trust this will be improved? I would also be very grateful if you would ask Highways to install a traffic light at the Keighley Road juntion. The proposed route for him to take involes going down a steep hill and crossing a wide park area: viz a half mile journey to travel 100 yards., I represented the disabled community on Hebden Bridge Toiwn Partnership for 6 years, leading to the development of Hebden Bridge Disability Action Forum. on Facebook Share I am delighted to see that the car park extension at Hebden Bridge station will increase the number of Blue Badge spaces to 4. Thank you for your enquiry. Just to confirm, the number of Blue Badge bays once completed will actually be 6. Also, there will be a dropped kerb connecting the car park to the footway on the top end of the car park, along where the fence line runs parallel to the tracks. The scope of this project is only to extend the current car park, within the Network Rail land boundary. We suggest any highways comments are raised directly with Calderdale Council, as the local authority. Thank you.

Thanks for your enquiry, the extended car park will have passive provision installed as part of the project, this is ducting beneath the car park to allow EV spaces to be installed in the future without the need to dig up the whole car park. Northern do not currently have an EV policy which has prevented any live points being installed.
