Thank you to everyone who provided feedback to this engagement, this engagement is now closed and the responses have now been analysed and the outcome report has now been published and can be found here.

In early 2022, Leeds City Council and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority consulted on proposals for cycle improvements along Dewsbury Road. This was one area which was aimed at plugging missing links in the existing cycling network.

To date the scheme has already introduced cycling and walking infrastructure at the following locations:

  • Western Gateway

  • Southern Gateway

  • Crown Point Bridge Gateway

  • Holbeck Connector

  • Dewsbury Road Connector

Outputs already delivered as part of the scheme include:

  • 2.71km of segregated cycle lanes

  • 29 improved crossing for pedestrians

  • 14 Junctions with improved cycle facilities

We would now like to hear your views on the proposal to extend the existing Dewsbury Road Connector development.

The extension would deliver a further:

  • 300m of segregated one-way cycle track and 250m of segregated two-way cycle track

  • 4 new priority cycle crossings

  • 1 signalled pedestrian crossing

  • An upgraded bus stop with new shelter.

Before you complete the questionnaire, we recommend you read all about the proposals for the extended cycleway and view the plans here (opens new web page).

Aims of the Dewsbury Road Cycleway Extension scheme

The scheme is part of the Leeds City Region Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) programme(External link) which is aimed at making it easier for people to walk, cycle and use public transport.

The key aims of this scheme are to:

  • Enable more people to walk and cycle, either for short trips or as part of a longer journey by public transport, including journeys to and from Leeds Rail Station

  • Connect more people with jobs, education, training and leisure opportunities
