Phase 2A: A650 Manningham Lane Route
City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (CBMDC), in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, is developing the main roads between Bradford and Shipley and would like your feedback on the proposed improvements.
The roads in question are key transport routes northwards into and out of Bradford city, and providing access into Airedale, Wharfedale and beyond.

Phase 2A Consultation
We are holding an interim consultation (Phase 2A) for the A650 Manningham Lane / Keighley Road / Bradford Road route to allow members of the public to help inform the developing detailed design. We would particularly like feedback on the proposals to:
- improve walking and cycling facilities
- reduce through traffic
- improve air quality
- reduce accidents
- prevent unlawful parking
- improve landscaping
The visual images and videos shown on this website are for illustrative purposes only to show general proposals of the scheme for consultation. It is likely that the details will change through further development of the scheme design.
There will be another opportunity for people to have their say in autumn 2022 (consultation phase 2B), when further plans for the full scheme will be shared, including the A6037 Canal Road / Valley Road route. Anyone who is unable to respond to phase 2A will have a further opportunity to provide feedback at this time.
We would like to invite you to provide feedback on our proposals for the A650 Manningham Lane Route. Before you complete the survey, it is recommended that you view the plans for each of the following areas:
Booklet 1 A6038 Otley Road to Frizinghall Road
Booklet 2 Frizinghall Road to A6177 Queens Road
Booklet 3 A6177 Queens Road to A6181 Hamm Strasse
This survey will be open from 8 June until 5 July 2020.
The first phase of consultation took place between December 2018 and February 2019 with the majority being in support of the scheme objectives and principles. Feedback received through that consultation has helped shape the current proposals.
The following video highlights some of the current issues in the area:
The project went through the first stage of the Combined Authority approval process (known as the outline business case) in December 2019. A preferred scheme was identified and was approved by Bradford Council’s Executive in January 2020. Details of the phase 1 consultation proposals, including the responses and analysis report, can be found here.
The Proposal
Manningham Lane / Keighley Road / Bradford Road (video opens via YouTube)
The plan is to make the A650 Bradford Road / Keighley Road / Manningham Lane into a high-quality green route with improvements for buses, pedestrians and cyclists.
Canal Road / Valley Road (video opens via YouTube)
The plan is to improve Canal Road / Valley Road to increase capacity so that a lot of the non-local traffic can be taken off the A650. Improvements will also be made to road junctions to reduce queuing traffic.
Landscaping along both the routes would also be improved to make the environment more attractive.
Some initial preferred options can be viewed below:
Option 1 – Preferred Option ‘with’ new Valley Road Railway Bridge | Option 2 – Preferred Option ‘without’ new Valley Road Railway Bridge |
Next steps
Following the consultation period, the survey results will be analysed, and your feedback will be considered. Feedback will help develop the proposals which will be presented in the next phase of consultation which is planned for autumn 2022 (Phase 2B).
