FAQ
What are your timescales?
Timelines for the project are yet to be confirmed and are subject to approval. We are planning to submit the planning application in late 2018 with the intention of awarding a design and build contract in early 2019. Working to these timescales, we expect to have the final design ready and commencement of construction before summer 2020 for an 18 month project delivery.
Where can I view the planning application for the project?
The planning application will be submitted later this year and we publicly promote this milestone. Once submitted the public can read it at: www.calderdale.gov.uk/v2/residents/environment-planning-and-building/planning/search-and-comment-planning-applications
How is the project being funded?
The A629 Calder and Hebble Junction project is part of the Council’s work to invest in transport infrastructure using the Leeds City Region’s £1 billion West Yorkshire-plus Transport Fund. The fund is being invested over 10 years in more than 30 transport infrastructure schemes across West Yorkshire and York, designed to create around 20,000 new jobs and add £2.4 billion a year to the economy by the mid-2030s.
Why is there so much investment focused around the A629?
The A629 Halifax to Huddersfield is a key route that, through improvements, could create job, relieve congestion, reduce journey times for general traffic, and improve pedestrian and cycling accessibility.
Calderdale and Kirklees Council are jointly developing interventions that will be introduced in various projects along the A629 corridor. For information about the Kirklees project, visit www.kirklees.gov.uk/majorschemes.
